Escape Room | Difference between Real and Reel escape room

With an hour on the clock, you and your group must cooperate and escape before time runs out. Would you be able to escape?

Are you a horror movie enthusiast?

If yes, Escape Rooms (2017) is the movie to watch.

Escape Room Movie 2017

This first of many movies about escape rooms is written and directed by Peter Duke, a story of friends exploring a horror-themed game room, which goes catawampus.

Don't worry; this is not how real life escape rooms work. They are amazing to experience and safe to be in. The only point of concern (and a good one) is that they are absolutely addictive.

The Trend called Escape Rooms

Escape rooms are an interactive gaming concept introduced in the USA in 2015. This 60-minute thrill game caught the attention of the youth in absolutely no time.

The need for adventurous outings, the answer to 'Let's do something different,' and the solution to all thrill-seeking nerds was Escape Room Games.

Before one knew it, it was climbing the charts of "Top 10 fun things to do in the city" in every city it popped up.

These became popular not just with the youngsters, though. People of almost all age groups (including seniors) saw this as a fun go-to to escape their mundane routines.

Escape rooms for an escape; how ironic is that.

Escape rooms have picked up like wildfire in popularity. A movie centered around it sooner or later was inevitable.

There are many other outdoor adventure concepts like laser tag, bowling, roller coasters, and more. However, none provide room for creativity large enough to work a whole movie around it.

Imagine the creativity it has to offer as a live experience! You need to be in one to know what it feels like.

Reel-ed: How and why?

Peter Duke stated in his interview that the passion and enthusiasm of people creating escape rooms inspired him to theme his movie around it. The concept allows for so much creativity in a movie and in real life too.

He wanted to build something that would hook the audience right in, and so it did exactly that.

Escape rooms are a unique, thrilling concept with so much to work around, horror being just one of the themes.

Those new to the gaming concept found the idea intriguing. Suddenly they were looking up everything about it and the kinds of games that they could head out to with their friends.

The regular horror freaks thought the movie had more scope than it projected.

How real was reel?

Having seen the escape room movie and experienced a horror-themed Escape Room game, I have to say the director created the spookiness in the film quite carefully.

The movie sees a horror-concept review writer head to experience an escape room along with his friends. The one he is headed to is named Deranged and has won the award for the most amazing live experience in the movie.

Having lost participant traffic recently, this is the escape room owner's desperate attempt to get a positive review by a well-known writer and hence get back in the game.

To add to the experience, he brings a shady-looking skull resembling a box that is rumored to have captured a real demon and strategically places it in the room.

He did not believe the demon story and thought it gave a real ghostly feel to the room.

However, it is a movie. After all, the demon had to be real.

A real escape game is always set up in similar ways. Just like in the movie, it would have dark walls, spooky décor, bloodstains, and more.

The movie sees the friends entering the game room blindfolded, which is a great touch to build up horror.

The idea of their game is to find the key and escape the room in which they are trapped, as that is the place a deranged son killed his father. His own body and soul are trapped in the room, too, and shall be let loose in 60 minutes if they do not escape.

A theme like this in the real escape game room would definitely be a famous one. Creepy stories make the best-sellers often.

The props are appropriately set. A shelve of books, locked wardrobes, the murder weapon, and a deranged man stuck to the corner of the room.

Though his job is just to scare the participants time and again, the mysterious skull box brings about a twist in the story.

Once opened, this box unleashes a bloodthirsty demon into the actor playing the deranged son, sending him on a killing spree. Two out of the four friends end up dead, one injured.

The owner ends up overlooking this incident as his security cams go down at a crucial time, thanks to our demon from the box.

He is afraid that this technical glitch will fetch a bad review, so he waits for the time to strike zero before checking in the room.

It is only when he realizes that the camera has been purposefully tampered with that, he calls for help. But the damage is done.

Speaking of the horror element, it does bring about spine-chilling moments as a real escape room game would.

The props and setup really create a next to the real ambiance - Which is just how real escape rooms build up the story.

There is a sense of reality in the way they design their rooms around the fictitious story, enough to enhance the experience of the game.

The director has used classic examples of how escape room puzzles work. The connections between each clue are a smooth flow. Mr. Peter did excellent research.

Real Escape Rooms, though, have a high-security measure. The rooms are not completely soundproof, and the games have dedicated mentors looking over speaking to you on and off.

Overall, though there was more creative room for the director to work with as it is fiction in terms of 'Spooked' moments, it was a well-researched description of an escape room.

The movie does bring about a curious, edge-of-the-seat experience that nearly every escape room live experience has to offer you.

If you have not seen this one yet, watch it now, and decide for yourself.

Reel-fun or Real-fun: Your take!

As much as the movie can share the vibe of the escape room games with you, there is nothing better than having experienced one yourself.

A horror-themed escape room is all the creeps you need to have a day full of adventure, madness, and a bit of nervous laughter.

If horror is not your thing, then here is the good news: Escape Rooms have a zillion other themes, and one of them is sure to catch you in its grip.

So, don't wait longer. Book your experience before the other readers do and share your experience.
