About the experience

A renowned professor of artifacts was on a dig in Asia and found an artifact he did not recognize. He was found dead in his home a week later. It was a mystery what killed him. In one of his journals it was found that he found out what the artifact was and wanted to be rid of it. He was going to destroy it and burn it so no one would have to be hexed. He wasn't successful obviously. The details of the hex were specific, if someone comes in contact within the object for 1 hour they would be hexed and meet an untimely fate.

We made Chinese Jewelry Box, Suicide Hotel and Burglary that changed the world our 62, 63 and 64th escape rooms...our 3rd, 4th and 5th in NY. These were definitely the best rooms we have experienced in NY and some of the best overall. Certainly the sets are very immersive and large scale. Chinese Jewelry Box - probably the closest to a traditional escape room...a peaceful professors house and office where we need to solve clues. Not too hard - we did need one clue on a scavenger hunt grab we failed to make even though we inspected the area a couple of times. Suicide Hotel - not a scary room...a bit creepy. But we have been in creepier rooms. This room feature some cool tech that worked very well. The game was fairly linear and progressed in true story form to the final conclusion. Fun and engaging transitions between sets...some areas were quite dark and while we are afraid of the dark it is just simply hard to see. Burglary that changed the world - maybe less of an escape room where you don't know where the puzzles are and what to do. This story had an immersive through plot from arriving in a van to breaking in, grabbing what is needed and breaking out. It was less of a "what do we do?" quest and more of a "how do we do that?"...but that is maybe what made this room super fun. Experiencing a large and varied set with thoughtful progression to the final escape. There are other rooms here and I am sure we will be back. The staff was very friendly...our only complaint was the main lobby especially was musty and smelled a bit like smoke and "incense"...the rooms were fine...especially Jewelry Box which was around the corner and upstairs...but the ventilation in the main lobby could be improved.
My wife and I played both the Chinese Jewelry Box, and Doctor Frankenstein rooms and very much enjoyed both. Great theming, set & audio design and just about the right level of difficulty. We were able to escape both rooms (with a little help from our Keymaster) with just the two of us. If we had more time in NYC, we would have definitely tried Komnata Quest's other rooms. Very much recommended.
First time doing an escape room, we booked a party of three and were quickly confirmed. Finding the place was a bit tricky but the game masters were friendly and instructive in helping us. We booked the Hex of the Chinese Jewelry Box, and it was amazing! From the informative rules overview to the immersion and theme, we loved every minute of it. If you get stuck, the game masters will give you hints. The tech was super cool inside and it was exciting solving the puzzles to get to the next step. We won with minutes to spare. The building does have a mini cooler with refreshments for purchase if desired.
